My First Sew Together Bag

This is the front of my first Sew Together Bag.  I had lots of orphan 'crazy quilt' (machine embroidery quilted)blocks leftover from a past project.  Thought they would make a pretty bag.

The crazy quilt blocks were made with flannel so I used flannel for the rest of the bag.
I wanted to make a storage area for my little stork scissors...so I just left an area open when I attached the pin cushion.  Wish I had purple elastic!
This bag was NOT easy...especially since I was using Heat and Bond instead of fusible interfacing...(didn't have any)...the Heat and Bond is almost impossible to sew on...it's sticky...had to constantly wipe down needle with alcohol wipe!

Now I can start some 'hexies'...been so interested in them for awhile now.

Almost finished!

To say that I'm almost finished with this quilt is a great statement!

This is the Front of my Sew Out Loud quilt that I started awhile back.  It is all paper pieced and was part of a quilt along on Flicker.
This is the Back of the quilt with the binding all made and ready to go!

When I started this quilt I wanted to do it 'quilt as you go' style.
But the problem with that was i didn't think it thru.
I sewed the 3 blocks across together with the sashing....added the batting to the back and began my quilting.   Turned out great.....

except...now back to my lack of planning...

I wasn't sure about the backing so I purposely didn't add one to my quilt as you go.

MISTAKE !!!

The front of the quilt, after adding the sashings looks great, lays flat...great!

BUT...

when I put the backing on I really could only sew around the sashings because of the quilting I did in the 'quilt as you go' method!  Which, unfortunately produced a rather 'cushy' block on the front.

SOOOOO....

I am now quilting, by hand, all around each block and in some areas of the block to make it a little more FLAT.

Now it isn't really THAT bad...nice and comfy...but I want to try an 'tack down' some of the blocks so it's not quite so puffy.

Hopefully I can get this done quickly...so far I have 2 rows completed with the hand quilting...3 to go, if my hands and arms and shoulders hold out !!!!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this and have a wonderful weekend.

Leave a comment if you have a better idea for fixing my problem...I'll be sure to think things out better the next time!

Echo Quilting

Over at Val's Quilting Studio there's a really neat thing happening!

Every Tuesday she comes up with a theme or two that you can link to of old posts that fit that theme.  This week it's 'echo quilting' and 'Easter'.

I don't have anything for Easter but I do have a quilt I made that I did a little echo quilting on...here's the link

You can click on any of the pictures in the post 2 times and get a close up.  Not the best echo quilting but it's something!

I've been Published!

...sort of

Several months ago I was contacted by the editor of Quilt Trends magazine.  It seems she was writing an article on Texting...and wanted to use blocks of mine she had seen on my blog!

WOW!!!

Unfortunately the pictures are a little dark and my name is spelled wrong.

But what the heck...it is STILL an honor!!!

Here is a close up.  I have posted before about these blocks...

The one on the left is my own design...appliqued.  It is showing a woman so engrossed in texting on her phone that the chain piecing she is doing is flying out the window!

The block on the right is a paper pieced block from a book, don't have it anymore, I embroidered the Sewing While Texting on the fabric she is sewing.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day...Happy Father's Day to all you guys out there!!!

Some bags I've been making...

This isn't the greatest picture, but it shows I HAVE been busy.

Our family was all together these past 2 weeks.

I made the girls some zippered pouches (such fun to make).  I also made 2 cell phone cases.  (The pink one is pictured, but I don't have a picture of the Betty Boop one I made for Tina, my daughter).

Also pictured is my BB case, a large beach bag and some zippered pouches I made out of UFO NY Beauty blocks.

I hope to take some pictures today so that I can list some of these items in my Etsy shop.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Wow...it's been a long time...will just post a quickie picture of my Betty Boop Carry On that I just finished.  I think it came out adorable.  I made the paper pieced BB a while ago and wanted to make something for ME...then I saw this free carry on tut and off I went.

The Betty Boop paper pieced pattern came from http://www.fandominstitches.com/

The Carry On tutorial is from http://www.noodle-head.com/
