To say that I'm almost finished with this quilt is a great statement!
This is the Front of my Sew Out Loud quilt that I started awhile back. It is all paper pieced and was part of a quilt along on Flicker.
This is the Back of the quilt with the binding all made and ready to go!
When I started this quilt I wanted to do it 'quilt as you go' style.
But the problem with that was i didn't think it thru.
I sewed the 3 blocks across together with the sashing....added the batting to the back and began my quilting. Turned out great.....
except...now back to my lack of planning...
I wasn't sure about the backing so I purposely didn't add one to my quilt as you go.
MISTAKE !!!
The front of the quilt, after adding the sashings looks great, lays flat...great!
BUT...
when I put the backing on I really could only sew around the sashings because of the quilting I did in the 'quilt as you go' method! Which, unfortunately produced a rather 'cushy' block on the front.
SOOOOO....
I am now quilting, by hand, all around each block and in some areas of the block to make it a little more FLAT.
Now it isn't really THAT bad...nice and comfy...but I want to try an 'tack down' some of the blocks so it's not quite so puffy.
Hopefully I can get this done quickly...so far I have 2 rows completed with the hand quilting...3 to go, if my hands and arms and shoulders hold out !!!!!
Thanks for taking the time to read this and have a wonderful weekend.
Leave a comment if you have a better idea for fixing my problem...I'll be sure to think things out better the next time!
This is such a cute quilt! I love those blocks and the backing is terrific! I have never done a quilt as you go project though. I am assuming that the more quilting the better for it to lay flat?
ReplyDeleteHi Anita. Adorable quilt and of course it will all quilt out if you take the time. I've gotten myself into some amazing quilting messes and the quilts are here to show that it doesn't matter as long as you keep going...Hope you're having a relaxing summer! best, nadia
